Rak Hang Siam (Love of Siam)
Wednesday, December 5th, 2007I was actually planning to write about my long overdue post on my recent vietnam trip but i simply must write Rak Hang Siam (Love at Siam), the latest Thai breakout movie.
Last Saturday, I was invited by some friends to watch a movie before going house shopping in MBK. When I learned that we were watching a Thai movie, I got apprehensive and hesitant to go. But since we were already in Paragon, I decided, why not.
We ended up watching Rak Hang Siam and can I just say…I LOVED IT! Hahahaha. I really did not expect to like it, least of all love it! I even asked my friend to get a hold of the soundtrack and rip it for me.
It’s a love story but with a twist. Definitely not your usual love story and at first you think…what the hell???…but once you get caught up with the different kind of love being shown…you begin to realize that love is love no matter what. And it’s not just about romantic love, mind you…it’s also about family love and friendly love…
It starts with two young boys who become good friends until they had to separate. Things are all good until one of them had to move away because of a tragic event in the family. After a few years, they meet accidentally in Siam Square where their friendship is once again rekindled. I don’t want to spoil things for you so best if you’re able to watch the film but needless to say, unexpected things happen, which at first elicits confused emotions from you but in the end, you begin to wish things to all work out. I know I sound cryptic and all, but hopefully it just makes you curious enough to watch the film.
And I know this will sound really pathetic…but one character is really cute. hehe. he looks really young though. Watch out for this up and coming cutie…mario maurer. And try listening to the movie’s soundtrack and hopefully get a copy of the English translations…it’s not half bad….hehe
